Tickets have gone on sale for QUAD’s ‘Summer Nights’ Festival of Outdoor film screenings in locations across Derbyshire.
Summer Nights Film Festival 2012 will tour a selection of classic and contemporary films and family features to locations throughout Derbyshire.
They will all presented on a giant screen by QUAD, Derby’s centre for art and film. Summer Nights offers the chance to enjoy the great outdoors for a unique cinematic experience.
Starting in early May and continuing until September, the venues span Renishaw Hall in the north of the county to Calke Abbey in the south of the region and include many National Trust properties.
The first screening, of Women In Love, on Friday, May 4, will be shown at Elvaston Castle which is the original location in which the film was shot, by the late Director Ken Russell.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June will also link the films The Queen, and The King’s Speech, at Renishaw Hall, and there will be specially arranged talks about Renishaw’s Royal links prior to the screenings.
Pre-screening events at other venues include live music, food and craft fairs and a Spitfire aircraft on display for screenings being held at Rolls-Royce Leisure in Derby.
John Tams, Derbyshire’s legendary folk artist, will introduce screenings of War Horse at Hardwick Hall and Rolls-Royce Leisure in Derby.
John Tams, who was recently announced as a patron of QUAD, is songmaker on the West End, Broadway and Toronto productions of War Horse and was also a consultant on the film.
Derbyshire and the Peak District have long been the filming location for hit films such as Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice as well as Women in Love.
David Thornton, Head of Marketing and Deputy Chief Executive of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, the area’s official tourist board, said: “Many famous films and television series have had the Peak District as their beautiful backdrop and help to attract tourists to the area to see at first hand where their favourite movies and programmes were made.
“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with QUAD to promote the new Summer Nights Film Festival 2012, which I am sure will add another exciting dimension to the area’s profile as a favourite destination with TV and film makers and visitors alike.”
