The money, raised through an online donation website, will now pay for the cat, called Leo, to be cremated.

Leo was found in Riddings Park on Thursday afternoon. The circumstances of his death left many people shocked and saddened and the online fundraising campaign has already raised over £1,800 towards the cremation and a memorial box for Leo’s owner Katie Dowler-Chell and her family to remember him by.

The gofundme website description states: “Leo, aged 3, was a much loved pet to Katie and her boys. Katie is a working single mum struggling to get by like many of us.

“She has suffered heartache along the way and Leo was a welcome addition to the family to heal broken hearts, I promised her I would help her with the financial cost of a cremation and a memorial box or memory of her choice for Leo.”

Police have interviewed three boys in connection with the incident.
