Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Andrew Wheatcroft, 25, of Dale Road, Matlock, paid £11,864.71 of customers’ refunds into his bank account while working at Matlock stone construction experts Pisani.

It was discovered Wheatcroft had moved a refund for a customer into his account, according to prosecuting solicitor Becky Mahon, and 18 such transactions involving customers were found.

Julie Page, defending, said Wheatcroft has been suffering with depression and took money to pay for his uncle’s funeral and further offences were to treat his partner. Wheatcroft pleaded guilty to committing fraud by false representation between October 2012 and May 2013. His case was originally adjourned to Derby Crown Court for July 4 but has since been re-adjourned until August 19.
