Oakerthorpe pit photo to go on display

A previously unseen aerial view of the old Oakerthorpe pit, near Alfreton, has recently been handed to Alfreton & District Heritage Trust.

This photograph plus a selection of the Trust’s artefacts, albums and books will be on show from November 15, at the Victorian Craft Fair and Market, in Swanwick Hall School dining room.

It will then form part of the permanent display at the Heritage Chapel in Alfreton’s Rodgers Lane cemetery, open every Sunday from 2-4pm.

Members of the Trust regularly take part in local events, appearing at Riddings Park Community Centre, Marehay Miners’ Welfare and Alfreton’s Firs House with displays of items from the store of memorabilia held at the Heritage Chapel. The trust’s centre at Cemetery Chapel, on Rodgers Lane, houses local artefacts, documents and photographs.
