Newton and Blackwell motorists warned to secure vehicles after thefts

Drivers in Newton and Blackwell are being urged to lock it or lose it after a number of thefts from vehicles in the area.

Sometime between 8pm on Wednesday, September 2 and 11.30am the following day, offenders stole a number of vouchers from an insecure vehicle on Manor Close in Newton. This crime’s police incident number for witnesses is 37811/15.

Two pairs of binoculars were taken from an insecure vehicle parked on Meadow Grove in Newton sometime between 12am and 7.30am on Thursday, September 3. The police crime number for witnesses is 37775/15.

Thieves gained entry to a car on Central Drive in Blackwell before taking a number of items including baggage, clothing, a wallet, camera and mobile phone sometime between 12am and 5am on Monday, August 31. The police crime number for witnesses is 37355/15.

Officers from the Tibshelf Safer Neighbourhood Team are urging motorists ensure their vehicles are locked and secured overnight and that all valuable items are removed from vehicles when they are left unattended. Other security advice includes:

Parking in well-lit, overlooked areas, including driveways or garages if possible;

Emptying the glove box and leaving the door open to show there is nothing in the compartment;

Investing in an alarm for your vehicle;

Using outdoor motion-sensitive lighting, or gravel on pathways or driveways, to indicate if someone is approaching your property.
