New special constables to join Derbyshire Police

Thirteen new special constables will be welcomed into Derbyshire Constabulary tonight (Tuesday).

Seven men and six women will be reading the oath of allegiance in front of family and friends at the ceremony.

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Haward said: “Our special constables provide vital support to the force, giving very welcome assistance to our communities and to police colleagues.

“I look forward to seeing them enjoying their new roles and the difference they will make to the lives of local people.”

The specials age between 19 and 52 will serve across the county and tonight they will be collecting their course certificates and warrant cards from magistrate Paul Beard.

During the ceremony ACC Haward will also be talking about his passion for policing and what it means to take the police oath.

Derbyshire Police will be screening the whole ceremony on Facebook Live for those family and friends who can not get to the event.
