Gregg Titley, development surveyor at St Modwen, said: “We’re pleased to announce this first deal with Marston’s at Egstow Park, which will anchor the first phase of development at this site.

“We have also now received planning consent for a new supermarket and fast food restaurant at the development and are actively marketing these to potential occupiers.”

Groundworks have now started at the site to create vehicle access points.

When complete, work will begin on the new Marston’s venue.

Mr Titley added: “Once the infrastructure is in place, we will be in a position to bring the residential element of the scheme forward, which will provide a range of family homes for local people.”

Rachel Newnes, acquisition manager for Marston’s, said: “We are delighted to be part of the new Clay Cross development.”

Once complete, Egstow Park will comprise the pub, more than 900 homes, employment space and a fast food restaurant.

St Mowden bought the 204-acre site – which used to be home to Clay Cross’s former biwater site – in 2013.
