The den has opened as part of the Forest Schools initiative, which promotes education in the outdoors.

Kirstin Bloxam, vice chair of governors, said: “Forest Schools is completely child-led, meaning that children can follow their own interests, work at their own pace and take risks in a safe environment.

“Typically our children enjoy activities such as birdwatching, making potions, playing in the mud, cooking on the camp fire and making things from natural items.

“Our children love Forest Schools and we see a huge improvement in their skills.”

Various individuals and firms have helped in the creation of the den, which has been funded by a grant.
