New additions to play area

Heanor residents are all set to take advantage of an exciting redevelopment of the play area on Hands Road in the town.

Work has finished on the project to extend the play area, and add new play equipment.

The area now has an additional range of fun elements including a 20-metre long aerial runway, extra swings, balancing and climbing items.

There is now something for all ages to enjoy at this popular location.

Work to improve the play area started last summer when Heanor and Loscoe Town Council donated £30,000 towards improving the area for children.

Amber Valley Borough Council then worked with the town council to deliver the extension.

Both councils are pleased with play area improvement.

The equipment allows a larger area for children to play, and more challenging items to play on. The play area was ready just in time for the Easter holidays.

Heanor mum Dianne Loss said her children were excited to see new apparatus to play with.

She said: “The play area with extra equipment will be great for the community, especially as spring is coming and the weather is starting to brighten up.

“My children like many love playing outside and it will be nice for them to have something new to keep them occupied.

“Heanor as a town, could do with some TLC and projects like this make all the difference.

“It may seem like a small addition to some, but every little helps and with any luck, other projects might start springing up, which could really set the ball rolling to regenerate the town.”

Resident Mary Brockwell said children were already flocking to the park since its opening.

She said: “I can see the youngsters playing from my window and it’s a lovely sight. It is good they have something to occupy themselves with.”
