National Trust rolls out festivities

Join the National Trust for some festive family fun as we count down the days to Christmas.

Many of the Trust’s places across the Midlands will be offering special events and activities during November and December.

There are plenty of chances to see Father Christmas, to shop for gifts, listen to carols or soak up the atmosphere in the trust’s traditionally decorated houses.

It’s also the perfect time to don those winter woollies and head outdoors for a ramble in the countryside or parkland followed by a hearty bowl of soup in a tea room.

Maria Narducci, spokesperson for the Trust, said: “Christmas is the perfect time to come and visit us and this year almost all of our doors will be open during the festive period.

“Spend family time away from the crowded high street and create your own magical memories at our festive places.”

There are over 20 Christmas events and activities across the National Trust’s Derbyshire properties from food and craft fairs to family activities.

Here’s a small selection:

On 10 and 11 December from 11.00am to 4.30pm The courtyard and Tea Rooms at Ilam Park will be transformed into a magical Christmas Market with sustainably sourced Christmas trees and local hand made crafts for sale, as well as musical entertainment, children’s games, craft activities and a warming cup of free mulled wine.

On December 3, 4, 10 and 11 Kedleston Hall will host an Edwardian Christmas with the Hall decorated in Edwardian style, along with a variety of festive activities. You’ll also be able to meet Santa and his reindeer.

Sudbury Hall has its Christmas Market on 3 and 4 December from 11.00am with local stallholders selling seasonal gifts and food.

For a break from shopping join in Calke’s Christmas Tea Dance on 3 December 2011 from 2.00pm.

Christmas at Hardwick will have a 1940’s ‘make do and mend’ theme. Find out how families pulled together during the war years to celebrate the festive season when rationing was in full swing on 3, 4, 10 and 11 December from 11.00am to 3.00pm.
