Music and poetry to mark centenary of The Great War
A Buxton church will be the venue for an evening commemorating the centenary of the First World War through contemporary words and music.
‘Anthem for Doomed Youth’ is the title of the event, featuring music by pianist Ian Buckle and readings by Philip Holland.
Works by Ravel, Webern, Elgar, Ireland, Bridge and Bainton will be performed, alongside poetry by Wilfred Owen, Philip Larkin, Geoffrey Hill and Andrew Motion.
The event will be held at The Parish Church of St John the Baptist on Sunday August 10, at 7.30pm.
Tickets, priced £10, are available now from the Buxton Opera House box office on 01298 72190.
The event will be raising funds towards bringing the Hallé Orchestra to the opera house in October for a charity gala concert in aid of Chapel-en-le-Frith hospice Blythe House.
