MURDER TRIAL: Accused Leon Lockhart ‘ran past’ witness around time of stabbing

A witness has told a murder trial how the accused ran past him about the time of the killing of a dad in a Derbyshire village.

Joshua Farley was giving evidence today in the trial of Leon Lockhart, who is accused of murdering Daniel Baker by stabbing him in the heart with a kitchen knife.

Lockhart, 32, of Carter Lane East, South Normanton, denies murdering the 32-year-old father.

Mr Farley told Nottingham Crown Court that he was walking along Storth Lane, South Normanton, just after 11pm on Friday, July 19 last year.

He said: “I saw a figure of a man run past me then, as I turned round, I saw a figure of a woman walk past me.”

He said he recognised the man to be Lockhart.

Earlier this week, the jury heard that Lockhart, his then-girlfriend Michaela Griffiths and Mr Baker had been seen together by a couple at about 11pm.

About 20 minutes later, the same couple saw Lockhart and Griffiths on their own before finding Mr Baker, of Derby, slumped on the pavement of Carter Lane West with a weak pulse.

They had tried to resuscitate him but he was declared dead on arrival at hospital.

The case was adjourned until Monday morning.
