Mountain team rescues stranded casualties in Derbyshire

Sixteen members of the joint Buxton and Edale Teams Snatch Squad were called to the Grouse Inn, near Froggatt, late on Friday, January 17, morning.

A lady in her late 50’s was walking with a U3A group from Sheffield when she suffered a medical collapse, on White Edge, Big Moor near Froggatt.

She was treated on site by the team and Helimed doctors and airlifted to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, for treatment.

Later in the afternoon 25 members of the joint Buxton and Edale Teams Snatch Squad were called to Mam Nick Car Park, near Castleton, and Chapel Gate, following a report of an injured walker, thought to be on Rushop Edge.

The location was later changed to The Tipps Car Park, near Edale, when the position of the casualties was made clearer.

The team located a 44 year old male from Urmston, Manchester, who had suffered lacerations to a leg from a buried broken bottle when he sank into a peat bog near to Brown Knoll.

He was treated on site by a Edale team paramedic, packaged and placed onto a stretcher.

Team members moved him via Edale Cross, Jacobs Ladder, and arrived at The Tipps Car Park in the dark.

The casualty was transferred to the waiting land ambulance and taken to the Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport for treatment.

Three others in the party were unhurt and escorted to The Tipps Car Park and taken to Mam Nick Car Park to collect their vehicle.
