Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday how Dean Newton, 37, of Woodbridge Avenue, Clifton, was found in a field off the A6, at Darley Dale, near a parked Toyota Aygo he had been driving.

Prosecuting solicitor Lynn Manning said Newton told police he had previously been to a pub and had a row with his partner about her plans to meet her ex.

Miss Manning added that Newton later found his partner walking on the A6 but hid in a field when her ex-partner arrived.

Newton told police he had then consumed vodka before he was found. He pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after the incident on July 27.

Newton was ordered to pay £499 in fines and costs and was given an 18-month driving ban.
