Month of delays as Hasland’s traffic lights are scrapped

Drivers face up to a month of delays as Hasland’s controversial traffic lights are replaced with a mini-roundabout.

The project, which was due to start on Monday, is expected to cause big delays at The Green up until the end of September.

Campaigners claim the “confusing and dangerous” lights have caused several accidents since they were installed in December 2011.

The traffic lights replaced a mini-roundabout which was removed following a number of road accidents.

Last year, hundreds of people attended a consultation event in the village to have a say on ways to improve safety at the accident blackspot.

A spokesman for Derbyshire County Council said: “It was evident from the consultation event and email responses that the community wished to see the old arrangement of a mini-roundabout reintroduced.”
