Hundreds of spectators massed the crest for free at Monsal Head in the Peak District last year as the action unfolded with riders including pros Russell and Dean Downing before Jack Pullar, of Wheelbase, clocked the fastest time.

The Sheffrec Cycle Club event is being sponsored by Simplyhealth, Pelican Cycles and the Derbyshire Times and will attract 120 competitors after they have trained hard to take on the steep, 1:6, 675 yard sprinters’ climb.

And the Derbyshire Times will be publishing a pull-out in our Thursday, October 3 edition of the newspaper with a riders’ list and features for this year’s annual event which starts at 11am, on Sunday, October 6.

Copies will be on sale at the event with goody bags and there will also be a pull-out spread in our Thursday, October 10 edition, with results, more interviews and pictures.

The Monsal Hill Climb was first run in 1930 by a few mates who used to time each other and it has now become one of the country’s top hill climb events.

Retired pro-rider and local legend Malcom Elliott still holds the record for the fastest time from his incredible 1981 performance of one minute and 14.2seconds. Current champion Jack Pullar managed the climb in 2012 in one minute 18.9seconds.
