Children visiting Bolsover Castle this week (Monday 8 – Friday 12 August) will discover the gruesome facts about medieval justice and medicine, and experience for themselves some of the punishments meted out.

The Sheriff of Bolsover will be holding court and visitors could find themselves on trial and serving time in the stocks for their crimes. The medieval surgeon has grim tales of amputations, tooth extractions and blood sucking leeches.

Lynsey Coombs, English Heritage visitor operations manager, said: “Time Travellers Go…events at Bolsover Castle take place from Monday to Friday every week throughout August, with a different theme each week. The events are run by colourful historic characters who bring history to life for children making it a memorable day out.”

Next week from Monday 15 to Friday 19 August is Time Travellers Go.. Cavaliers and Roundheads. Join Oliver Cromwell’s army and discover what it took to be a soldier of the English Civil War. Then test your agility in the children’s battle and learn to use a pike in the soldiers drill.
