A Derbyshire student could soon be swapping the lecture theatre for the catwalk as she celebrates modelling success.

Maxine Sykes has strutted her way into the final of Top Model UK 2014.

The 20-year-old from Hope Valley is currently studying exhibition and museum design at the University of Lincoln.

But she applied for the competition after seeing an advert online and was stunned to hear she had beaten competition from more than 1,000 applicants, to be just one of 17 to make it to the final. Since entering the competition, Maxine - who is being sponsored by the Lynda V Price salon and spa in Sheffield, has already taken part in London Fashion Week.

Maxine said: “To be honest, it was my sister Morgan who was always more interested in modelling than I was.

“I signed up for the competition not really expecting anything to come of it and now I’m just taking it one step at a time.”

Maxine is waiting for the final of the competition which takes place between April 4 and 6. She is also waiting to hear the outcome of a public vote award with all proceeds going to charity Children with Cancer UK.
