At around 8pm last night (Wednesday) eight caravans and a number of other vehicles moved onto Derbyshire County Council’s headquarters car park.

A Derbyshire County Council spokesman said: “We understand it is a very temporary stay but we have no further details at this stage.

“We’re talking to the travellers with a view to resolving the situation as soon as possible.

“We will follow the usual procedures for dealing with unauthorised traveller camps.

“There is enough capacity in the car park to make it possible for a large number of our staff to still be able to use it and we’re opening up additional temporary parking.

“Should any staff not be able to find a space they will find appropriate alternative parking respecting our local residents as they would on any other busy day.

“Our County Hall services are unaffected by this.”
