Matlock Post Office is saved from closure

The Post Office has announced its Matlock branch is not only going to be saved from closure – but will be given a makeover.

The news comes following months of concern for the future of the branch, which was ear–marked for potential closure last year.

Instead the office, in Bank Road, will undergo a modernisation programme, in order to create a ‘modern, profitable and sustainable network’.

The Post Office has been trying to find a suitable retail partner in order to run the branch as a franchise, however has failed to reach an agreement with anyone.

It has therefore decided to keep the site open and invest an undisclosed amount in it.

General manager of the Crown Post Office Network Roger Gale said: “Post Office can confirm that we have not found a suitable retail partner that would help secure the future of Matlock Post Office, and we will not be continuing with our search.

“This means that this branch will remain under Post Office management. Our plan now is to invest in the branch to modernise it as part of our ongoing transformation programme, designed to ensure our Post Office branches are sustainable and profitable, reducing reliance on Government funding.

“I would like to express my appreciation for the great work of our colleagues at Matlock Post Office who have provided an excellent service to customers throughout our search for a partner. I believe that with their help and the investment we have planned we will be able to meet customer needs.”
