Matlock motorists told to be vigilant after vehicle break-ins

Motorists are being urged to be vigilant after two vehicles were broken into in the Matlock area.

Overnight between 5pm on Friday, December 12 and 9am on Saturday, December 13, offenders broke into a vehicle that was parked in a private car park on Bakewell Road, Matlock.

Thieves smashed the light of a white coloured Citroen Berlingo and forced entry into the vehicle. A search was carried out of the car however nothing stolen.

On the same night, a white coloured Fiat van was also broken into by thieves by unknown means. Offenders emptied the contents of the glove box and carried out a search, however no items were stolen.

The van was also parked in the same car park on Bakewell Road.

The incidents have prompted police to issue a warning to motorists to take extra security steps to help to protect their vehicles from being targeted by thieves.

In the run up to Christmas, officers are urging people not to leave shopping bags or presents in their vehicles to prevent them from being stolen.
