Matlock man three times over limit at controls of JCB

A man was found to be more than three times over the drink drive limit when he took charge of a JCB in Belper’s River Gardens.

Stephen Richardson, 41, of Willersly Lane, Matlock who has previous convictions for similar offences was found in charge of the vehicle on the public car park of the popular leisure attraction on Sunday, July 27 this year.

An analysis of his breath found he had 109 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35. Richardson was given an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for a period of 12 months during a hearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court in St Mary’s Gate Derby after he pleaded guilty to the offence at a previous hearing.

He will not serve the sentence unless he commits another offence during the next year. During the hearing, magistrates also sentenced him to undergo a 12 month period of supervision with an officer from the the probation service.

He was also disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of four months and ordered to pay £85 in court costs to the Crown Prosecution Service during a hearing at the court on Wednesday, September 17.
