Matlock man armed himself with knives after ‘affair’ dispute

A man who grabbed three knives before looking for his partner’s alleged lover has been given a community order.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, May 6, how Christopher Hewitt, of Devonshire Avenue, Matlock, admitted three counts of having a knife in public.

During a previous hearing, prosecuting solicitor Robert Carr said Hewitt returned from work to confront his partner over suspicions she was having an affair.

Hewitt knocked over a block of kitchen knives and picked three up, according to Mr Carr, and left with the intention of confronting his partner’s alleged lover.

Mr Carr added that Hewitt could not find the man and returned home where he was arrested in March. Defence solicitor Steve Brint said Hewitt had no idea where the man lived and the defendant had finally intended to drive to his original home of Oldham.

Hewitt was given a 12 month community order with 150 hours’ unpaid work. He must pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
