Tara Blick, former wife to Alexander Blick, has spoken exclusively to the Mercury to reveal her “shock and disappointment” that killer Wayne Carroll could walk the streets again in as little as seven years.

Michael Wayne Carroll, 44, of Upper Greenhill Gardens, Matlock, was sentenced to life imprisonment – with a minimum term of seven years – at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, April 29. He will also receive treatment under the Mental Health Act.

Tara Blick, former wife to Alexander, said: “I’m not happy at all with the sentence. I find it absolutely disgraceful that Carroll could be walking the streets again in seven years.

“Alexander’s son, Harry, will only be 21-years-old then. It does not seem a long punishment for taking somebody’s life.”

The body of Alexander Blick, who lived in Matlock Bath, was discovered by a member of the public on Sunday, October 16 2011 in the grounds of the library, in Steep Turnpike.

A post mortem examination, carried out the next day, revealed that the 42-year-old died as a result of head injuries after Carroll bludgeoned him with a rock weighing 35 kilograms.

Tara said: “The sentence is lenient, but justice has been done now and we must get on with rebuilding our lives.”
