The Mercury carried a story this week to say the annual attraction is under review after it was revealed it does not make a profit.

Derbyshire Dales District Council say some people have jumped to the conclusion that the last night of the illuminations has been cancelled.

The council, which organises one of the region’s most popular events, would like to stress that the illuminations will go ahead tomorrow (Saturday) complete with the famous parade of decorated boats and a fireworks finale at 9pm.

A spokesman added: “All the services we provide are currently under review (not just the Illuminations) and that we are confident this year of once again achieving our target of operating the fabulous and historic event – in its 117th year - on a break-even basis at no cost to local council tax payers.

“We would add that because the last night of the illuminations is traditionally the busiest of the entire season, all car parks in Matlock Bath are likely to be full several hours before our Derwent Gardens ticket offices open at 5pm tomorrow – we therefore recommend the regular East Midlands train service on the Derwent Valley line, which stops at Matlock Bath, and our park and ride service from County Offices in Matlock and Cromford Meadows.
