Marathon tribute for ‘special’ dad

When Stephanie Wass runs the London marathon, thoughts of her late father Albert Rollinson will keep her going.

Stephanie and husband Chris, 46, who live in Heanor, want to raise £5,000 for the British Lung Foundation (BLF) by running in Albert’s memory as part of BLF’s #TeamBreathe.

Albert, a former butcher in Ilkeston, died following an 18-month battle with lung disease in December 2013, aged 72.

Though they have both taken part in runs before, this will be the first time they have taken on a marathon.

The couple, who run their own security company, have already raised £4,500 through events such as coffee mornings.

They are also running a competition to see who can guess their combined finishing time.

Forty-two-year-old Stephanie said: “I felt I needed to do something positive in my dad’s memory.

“Chris and I have always wanted to run the London Marathon and it felt a fitting tribute to run in his memory for the charity he supported.

“I know that he would be very proud of us being able to do something so positive for people affected by lung disease.”

The 2015 London Marathon takes place on April 26. It will see thousands of runners pound the streets of the country’s capital city.

The marathon is the largest annual fundraising event in the world.

During the last 30 years runners have made more than £500m for various charities.

The couple would like to thank all of the businesses that have sponsored them or donated raffle prizes. They are: Ron Brooks Ltd, AHBS Ltd, Stacey’s Bakery, Harpur and Finch and Thorpes Furniture.
