Marathon for mum-of-two

A RIPLEY teaching assistant is hoping to raise £1,500 for children with leukaemia as she takes on the London marathon this weekend.

Kate Turner, a mother-of-two, who works at Ripley Infants’ School, has spent months training for the run.

The 39-year-old will be running for the charity, Children With Leukaemia, which has one of the largest teams of sponsored runners in the 26.2 mile Virgin London Marathon on Sunday.

She said: “I just wanted to raise as much money as possible for such a great cause. Sadly a friend’s son recently passed away from leukaemia. I felt helpless as there was nothing I could do. I then started raising money for Children with Leukaemia and I raised nearly £3,000 last year running the England Kilomathon and hope to raise a large sum again this year.”
