Man suffers serious injuries after crash closes A617 in Derbyshire for four and a half hours

A man has suffered serious injuries following a collision which closed a carriageway of the A617 for four and a half hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash on the A617 at Temple Normanton.

At approximately 12.25pm on Friday June 20 a black Audi estate car, which was stationary in the inside lane, with its hazard lights flashing, was struck by a white Mercedes sprinter van travelling towards the M1.

As a result of the crash the 44-year-old male driver of the van suffered injuries which were described by paramedics as serious.

He was taken to Sheffield Northern General Hospital by air ambulance.

The 44-year-old female driver of the Audi was out of the car at the time of the collision and was uninjured.

The eastbound carriageway of the A617 was closed until 5pm.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw either vehicle prior to the crash to contact Derbyshire police on 101, quoting the incident number 364/20/06/14.
