Man rushed to hospital after being taken ill in Chesterfield

A man has been rushed to hospital after being taken ill on New Beetwell Street in Chesterfield town centre.

The incident - which took place yesterday (Thursday, March 23) - involved a ‘comatose’ man who ‘appeared to have taken something’.

The Derbyshire Times were alerted to the incident by a reader who said she thought there were over 20 sleeping bags in the area at the time.

She added that the man who was being treated by paramedics on the floor ‘wasn’t moving’ and that the whole area was ‘filthy’.

A spokesperson for EMAS confirmed an ambulance crew had attended the incident and had taken the man to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

However, a police spokesperson would only say they were looking in to ‘longer term solutions to the issue’.

According to an online poll we conducted on the idea, 57% of those who responded said you would support it.
