A MAN went out with a knife to “bolster his confidence” magistrates heard.
Stephen Owen, 43, was arrested after police received a report of a man with a knife in Devonshire Close, Staveley, and recovered a knife nearby.
Owen of St Johns Road, Newbold, told police he had been to an address to remonstrate with two men regarding damage to his property.
He said he took the knife because he knew one of the males had previously threatened someone with a knife and he wanted it as a deterrent.
Owen, admitted possessing a blade in public. The justices imposed a one-year probation supervision order.
“He took the knife to bolster his confidence and kept it sheathed at all times,” said Bob Sowter, for Owen.
