Man dies after incident on Ilkeston street

A man has died following an incident on a street in Ilkeston.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to Slade Close on Friday lunchtime.

Upon arrival, they found a man injured underneath a car.

He was taken to hospital but sadly died in the evening.

Neighbours have been left shocked following the incident, which saw the quiet cul-de-sac cordoned off by police.

The man has not yet been formally identified and it has not been confirmed how he came to be underneath the vehicle.

In a statement issued on Friday night, a Derbyshire police spokesman said: "A man who was found injured underneath a car in Ilkeston has died.

"Emergency services were called to Slade Close at around 12.40pm on Friday.

"The man, thought to be in his 50s, was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where he was pronounced dead.

"Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances around his death and a file is being prepared for the coroner."

People have taken to social media to express their sadness at the tragedy and send their respects to the man's loved ones.
