Man dies after collapsing on Mam Tor in the Peak District over the weekend

A man has died after collapsing on the summit of Mam Tor – known as “mother hill” – in the Peak District over the weekend.

East Midlands Ambulance Service were called at 7.10am on Sunday, October 11 after a caller reported that a 67-year-old man from Mansfield had collapsed on the Mam Tor Trail in Hope Valley.

Friends of the man and members of the public provided basic life support until Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams, a medical first responder and two crewed ambulances arrived at the scene but the climber sadly passed away.

In a Facebook post, Edale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Sadly despite the efforts of everyone on scene the outcome was not a good one.

"Thank you, must also go out to the friends and members of the public who provided basic life support until the emergency services arrived.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to the gentleman's family and friends at this sad time.”
