A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire at a flat in Chesterfield.

Firefighters were called to Cauldon Drive at about 5.10pm yesterday and tackled a blaze in the first-floor property.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “Paramedics treated a male casualty who was suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.”

A Derbyshire police spokesman this afternoon confirmed the arrest and urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

They should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 080 555 111.
