Make new friends at Matlock Forum Club

I have been a member of Matlock Forum Club for ten years. I was invited by the then chairman,John Thain, after swimming one Tuesday. So I strolled over to the Edgefold Club from the old Lido.

There was a very relaxed atmosphere and everyone was friendly and welcoming.

Over the years I have served as chairman and became programme coordinator booking speakers and putting together the programme.

The club was founded in 1973 to provide an opportunity for retired and semi-retired men to meet, socialise and enjoy themselves. It currently has 30 members on its roll.

Meetings are run at the Edgefold Club on Edgefold Road, every Tuesday from the beginning of October to the end of April. During the summer, the club holds meetings on the first Tuesday in May, June, July and September. The meetings start at 10am with coffee and a biscuit, followed by a speaker at 10.30am.

Talks are frequently illustrated with slides and cover a wide range of topics. The speakers are generally experienced and expert in their subject. Any member can request a subject or volunteer a speaker.
