A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: “The A38 is closed northbound between the A610 (Hartshay) and the A61 (Watchorn). The southbound carriageway is closed between the B600 (Cotes park) and the A610, due to a serious traffic collision. Derbyshire police are in attendance.

Traffic wishing to continue their journey north should exit the A38 at the A610 and continue along the A610 and turn right onto the B6013. Continue north, take a right onto the A615 then the A61 and re-join the A38 at Watchorn.

“HGV’s are advised to continue south on the M1 to J26 and follow the ‘solid black Diamond’ diversion symbol onto the A610 to re-join the A38 at Hartshay.

“Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and use alternative routes.”
