Lorry driver allegedly attacked by man rummaging through bins in Derbyshire town

A lorry driver was allegedly attacked and threatened by a man who had been rummaging through bins at an apartment complex in Derbyshire.

Police said the incident happened at Howard Town Mill, near to Marks and Spencer, in Glossop at about 6.15am on Friday, March 20.

Officers said the lorry driver told the man to stop looking through the bin.

The suspect allegedly kicked the driver and made threats to set the lorry on fire.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: “Officers want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, particularly someone who was walking their dog past The Smithy Fold pub, across the car park towards the Pico Lounge.”

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault, assaulting a police officer and arson with intent to endanger life.

Police have only just released details about the incident.
