Lorry crashes in the Peak District

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a lorry overturned in the Peak District and the driver left the scene of the crash.

The incident happened on the A5012 road, between New Haven and Cromford, about 2.50pm, on Thursday.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “The incident involved an over-turned goods vehicle two miles north of Grange Mill crossroads and the driver had absconded.

“A police helicopter was mobilised with a thermal camera to try and find the driver. When the fire service left the driver had not yet been located.”

Matlock firefighters helped make the scene safe and police arranged to have the vehicle removed.

Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.
