LETTER: We cannot afford to lose hospital

Clay Cross Hospital is a small, local hospital, with friendly welcoming staff in its pristine environment, its convalescence offers an oasis of calm following the overcrowded clamour of acute wards.

Because of the nature of convalescence it offers a valuable intermediary to home.
Home care as a alternative is inadequate in my view. It cannot replace the constancy of supervision necessary to ensure the safe passage to health.
The recent closure of the ward for dementia patients was unexpected as it obviously opened in answer to need. That need is very much with us. We cannot afford to lose these facilities.
We are ‘hearing it’ for Bolsover and Newholme and we stand with them when we say ‘let’s hear it for Clay Cross.’
