LETTER: Thanks to lady who returned phone

I was hoping I might use your pages to thank the young woman on the early Cleethorpes train from Doncaster on Saturday, May 20, who rescued my mobile when I left it on my seat at Scunthorpe.

I am contacting you as she mentioned that she had been travelling from Chesterfield, following a late night at work.

She valiantly (but vainly) attempted to get the phone back to me on the platform, but promptly handed it to the guard instead, which meant it could be returned to me a matter of hours later.

Although we exchanged a few pleasantries, I have no idea of her name or destination (only that she had travelled from Chesterfield). Nonetheless, I’m very grateful to her for her small but meaningful act of kindness, not least because like many others these days I find I rely increasingly on my phone to run my life.

As I’m unable to thank her personally, I hope that, with luck, this brief notice may be brought to her attention.
