Irene Wheatland, who lived at Futures Homescape’s Castle Drive sheltered scheme in Somercotes for six years before sadly passing away last year, left more than £260 to her local community centre for elderly people on George Street.

A plaque in memory of Irene has been unveiled in the community centre. Her donation is to be put towards the cost of purchasing a mobile memory pod - or ‘RemPod’ for one of Futures Homescape’s community centres. The RemPod displays old-fashioned décor, memorable newspaper cuttings and imely memorabilia in a bid to stimulate the memories of those living with dementia.

Billie Thompson, support services team leader, said: “The Rempod will act as a lasting legacy to Irene.”
