Alderman Sir David Wootton was special guest at Calow Primary to open the school’s Christmas fair. Sir David Wootton is a British lawyer and politician who was the 684th Lord Mayor of the City London in the year 2012. He was knighted in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to legal business, charity and the City of London.
The fair was attended by a bumper crowd of people from the local community to enjoy stalls, games and festive activities.
There was also a visit from Chesterfield Football Club mascot, singer Tanya Adele and Father Christmas. More than £1,500 was raised, which will be used to purchase state of the art computer equipment to benefit pupils at the School.
Headteacher Martin Thacker said: “It is fantastic to welcome such a high profile and prestigious visitor such as Sir David to our community. He was able to witness first-hand the wonderful support our school enjoys from the local area.
“Everyone appeared to have a lovely time at the fair. To raise this amount of money is testimony to the hard work and dedication of all involved.”
