Over 90 pupils with disabilities from Stubbin Wood School in Shirebrook took part in a Paralympics Day.
The students designed a new Olympic torch, medals and flag that could be used in a display about the games and planned a meal for a Paralympic athlete during the Bolsover District Council organised event on Thursday, September 8.
The youngsters were then given the chance to play a variety of sports including tri-golf, football, sitting volleyball and boccia and they learned different techniques and skills required to play these sports.
Every student received a medal and certificate for participating in the day.
Bolsover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, Cllr Ann Syrett said: “The day was great fun and all the students really threw themselves into both the classroom and sports activities.
“It was great to see the smiles on their faces and you never know we may even see one of them participating at a future Paralympic games.”
