Jobs saved as Staveley firm bought out of administration

Raw Brewing Company Ltd called in administrators earlier this month and the company was immediately acquired by Silver Brewhouse Ltd, it has emerged.

A spokesperson for Begbies Traynor - the Sheffield-based administrators - said: "Raw Brewing Company Ltd was incorporated in 2009 as a five-barrel brewery.

"It underwent expansion in 2012 and by 2017 had grown further with the purchase of a 15 barrel brewing plant.

"While increased production led to higher turnover, it also increased HMRC liabilities arising from Beer Duty Levy, subsequently causing cashflow difficulties.

"The business and assets have been acquired in a pre-pack sale, saving the company's two employees' jobs."

Joint administrator Claire Dowson added: "It's good news for creditors, staff and customers that the business will continue to trade and now has a more secure future."

In a statement, David and Michelle Hemstock, who owned Raw Brewing Company Ltd, said: “Raw Brewing Company had to be placed into administration on Friday, August 10, after over eight years’ trading. The company, the brand and its assets were purchased by Silver Brewhouse Ltd.

“Silver Brewhouse Ltd is headed up by Malcolm Watts and Richard Waddington, who you’ll all know is the former head brewer at Raw. Between them they have a vast amount of experience in the brewing industry.

“Raw beers will continue to be brewed, with four core beers and complemented with monthly and seasonal specials all of which will deliver bags of new world hoppy flavour, something which Raw is famous for. Funky Hop Donkey (FHD) will continue to be brewed and produce strong, hop laden un-fined experimental ales which have a loyal cult following.

“Raw and FHD will be brewed alongside an exciting new brand, Industrial Ales, which will focus on more traditional recipes, all using English hops and traditional malts. The Pigeon Fishers will also be brewing out of Silver Brewhouse and Ade has lots of exciting new beers to come.

“David will be moving on, well, moving next door to focus on his new venture, Derbyshire Distillery, making top class gin. So, he won’t be far away.

“We would like to thank all of our customers, fans and friends for your support over the last eight years and we are pleased that the hard work we put in isn't lost, but will continue under this new company.”
