A POPULAR Japanese Spireite is safe and well after the country was hit by a devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunamis.
Koichiro Suzuki, who leads the Tokyo branch of the Chesterfield FC supporters’ club and visits the home of his adopted team twice a year, has contacted friends in Derbyshire after disaster struck last Thursday.
His family are also safe – his brother miraculously escaping a wall of water when driving near the sea.
Well-known Mr Suzuki is due to visit the new B2net Stadium in April.
Friends Eric and Sandra Vaughan often put him up at their Brimington Common home after meeting at a game in 1997.
“It’s very scary to see what has happened in Japan” said Sandra (60).
“We’re glad Koichiro is fine but are still worried – he is part of the family.”
