Jail for man who injured worker in raid

Brandishing an imitation gun, Vincent Morris, 30, raided the shop on Station Road and demanded money at about 7pm on January 22.

A member of staff challenged Morris and a scuffle ensued. The worker suffered a dislocated shoulder.

Also on the same evening he entered a shop on High Street, Brimington, and stole coffee. A staff member confronted Morris as he tried to leave the store but then noticed he was carrying a knife and went back inside to call police.

Morris was arrested the following day. Morris, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit a serious offence, possessing a knife in a public place, attempted robbery, assault and theft. He was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to pay £120 victim surcharge at Derby Crown Court.
