It’s no wonder young Jack Kelly’s lucky number is 12...

The football-mad schoolboy is set to celebrate his landmark 12th birthday next Wednesday when the date will be a perfectly aligned 12/12/12.

And just to make his special day even more remarkable, the youngster, who lives with his family on Malson Way, Newbold, was born at 12 minutes to 12am.

Jack’s dad Shaun, 46, a technical officer, joked: “I’m going to let him pick my lottery numbers next week!”

Jack, who supports the Spireites and loves playing computer games, has a perfectly-timed inset day off Newbold Community School next Wednesday so he’s looking forward to a fun-filled time of go-karting with pals followed by a family meal.

He said: “It’s great I’ve got my birthday off school.

“My friends think all the 12s are really good.”

Mum Diane, 43, who volunteers at Highfield Hall Primary School, said the family realised 12 would play such an important part in Jack’s special day when he turned 11.

She said: “It’s quite unusual and certainly doesn’t happen very often.

“It doesn’t seem like five minutes since Jack was born and we’re all looking forward to a very special day next week.”

Jack’s not the only Derbyshire youngster who turns 12 on the extraordinary date.

Elyse Walker, of Birch Rise, Clay Cross, will celebrate her 12th birthday with a family party. Dad Paul, 34, an electrician, said: “She’s very excited about this special birthday.”

A group celebrating people whose birthday falls on 12/12/12 has been set up on the social networking site Facebook.
