Italian food for thought
Cosmopolitan pupils from Heath Primary School, in Chesterfield, have been transported via a new online field-trip to the Italian countryside and the rice fields of India as part of a scheme to teach them about the origins of food.
The technology, pioneered in the US, is being brought to UK schoolchildren and has been created by Tesco and teachers to using Google+ technology as part of the retailer’s Eat Happy Project.
It allows children to learn about food by talking to food growers and producers in the UK and thousands of miles away from their own classroom.
The first trips took place this month and transported children to Italy to talk to pasta producer Giuseppe Di Martino in Naples.
