A DERBYSHIRE man who has worked at the same high street company for a terrific 50 years has celebrated the remarkable milestone.
Dedicated Barry Stanhope said he was “extremely proud and privileged” to have worked at men’s clothes shop Burton for half a century.
Barry, 65, of Pilsley, joined the well-known firm back in 1962, working in the Alfreton branch before moving to the Chesterfield store.
The business was founded by Montague Burton in Chesterfield in 1903 under the name of The Cross-Tailoring Company.
Barry said: “I’ve received so much support and encouragement from this great company, which is incredibly important in Chesterfield.
“It’s been absolutely fabulous to me and I’m extremely proud and privileged to have worked here for 50 years,” he added.
Barry was presented with a Rolex watch and he enjoyed a celebration with colleagues at the Peak Edge Hotel to mark the anniversary.
Kirsty Robinson, deputy manager at Burton in Chesterfield, praised Barry.
She added: “We’d like to say a massive congratulations to him.
“He’s a very important and hard-working member of the team.”
Making reference to Barry’s top technique at cutting wool on old-style carrier bags, she added: “Here’s to another few string snapping years!”
