Inseparable Bulgarian rescue dogs need a loving new home
An Ashover kennel-owner is seeking a loving home for an inseparable pair of Bulgarian rescue dogs who have just arrived in England after travelling from their mother country.
The duo, who have been living together on the streets for more than a year, were the subject of a rescue effort co-ordinated between Derbyshire animal-lovers and a Bulgarian dog rescuer.
The campaign came about after the Bulgarian rescuer revealed on social media how she had found Geman Shepherd cross Richie and Golden Retriever cross Sam at the side of a road.
Nine year-old Sam had been hit by car and dragged away from oncoming traffic by faithful companion Richie, aged one.
After hearing about the besotted canines, Elaine Young, of the Canine Country Club, arranged for them to be transported from Bulgaria to her boarding kennels in Ashover.
She said: “We are desperately trying to find a home for them so they can remain together.
“But we don’t want to break up this partnership because they have been together since Richie was born. They did try and bring Richie alone but had to go back for Sam because they were both crying so much.
“They will make great pets - Richie is great with young children and Sam is a happy girl now she’s able to walk again. They’re both extremely friendly dogs - it’s like they know how lucky they are to have been given a second chance.”
The kennels are also awaiting the arrival of ten puppies from Romania on Monday (December 19) who have had a lucky escape after being set to be put down. The puppies are mix of Romanian sheepdog and terrier crossbreeds.
