Inquest opens in to death of woman who fell from Chesterfield bridge

AN inquest has opened into the death of a Staveley woman who fell from a bridge in Chesterfield.

Susan Jones, 42, of Gratton Court, died after falling onto the carriageaway of the A61, from Whittington Moor to Lockoford Island.

Police were called to the scene at 8.40pm on June 21, after a member of the public said a woman was injured in the road.

She was taken to hospital, but later died.

An inquest opened on June 26 in Chesterfield.

Chesterfield Sgt Lee Welsby, said: “Witnesses saw Susan Jones walk on to the bridge on Durrant Road and saw her climb the steel barrier and descend from the bridge, striking the central reservation.”

Floral tributes have been left at the scene. One read: “We love and miss you so much.”

The inquest was adjourned.
